Easter Food Ideas
Okay so you’re having a get together but need some ideas for Easter food? Don’t worry here’s a few ideas of some simple Easter recipes you can use.
Savoury Easter Food
Quiche – Well it’s made of eggs so perfect Easter food!
Line a dish with shortcrust pastry, I’m afraid I usually cheat with a pre-made pastry. Chop and fry 6 rashers of bacon and pop them onto the pastry with a handful of grated cheese. Beat up a couple of eggs with about ¼ pint of milk and pour over. Sprinkle a bit more cheese over the top. Stick it in the oven for about 40 mins on 190, gas 5, until golden.
Devilled Eggs – My mum makes her devilled eggs by adding a bit of Heinz Sandwich Spread – makes them extra delish! If you’ve time to make them really special why not dye them in pastel colours – it’s easy check out our Pinterest board for details.
Carrot Sticks and Dips – For a more healthy balance to our Easter food menu chop yourself some carrot sticks and get some dips, like soft cheese or some onion and garlic dip. I like to add a few more crudities like celery, pepper and cucumber and include a tomato salsa.
My own recipe for some scrumptious tomato salsa – finely chop an onion, half a red and half a green pepper, 5 cm of cucumber and 2 vine ripened tomatoes, crush a clove of garlic and add a tin of chopped plum tomatoes.
Use half a sachet of taco seasoning mix, a dash of Worcestershire sauce and some freshly chopped coriander. Stir together and leave in fridge overnight.
Sweet Easter Food
Hot Cross Buns – Unless you’ve got time to spare to make them yourself just pop to the shops - lovely toasted with a bit of butter yummy!
Simnel Cake – A traditional Easter fruit cake with delicious marzipan! We love the Be-Ro recipe.
Carrot Cake – With plenty of recipes out there for moist carrot cake, we like ones with raisins, if you take a look at our pinterest board you can get some ideas for topping it off – how about a carrot made of marzipan.
Chocolate Nests – An easy-peasy one and great for the kids to get messy with, grab yourself some milk chocolate, melt it in the microwave, bung in some shredded wheat and stir. Pop a spoonful in a cake case and top off with some mini eggs and leave to set. Done.
Easter Biscuits – I love these lightly spiced fruit biscuits – not just at Easter! Cut them out in Easter bunny shapes and they’re even more lovely. I like James Martin recipe.
Egg Jellies – If your kids have been given a plastic egg with a toy in, keep the plastic egg. Make up some jelly and use the plastic egg halves as jelly molds. Just make sure you plug up any air holes first!
